A handfasting ceremony is an ancient Pagan ritual, particularly associated with Celtic traditions, where a couple's hands are symbolically bound together to represent their union. It is a sacred way to formalise a commitment, and is often incorporated into Pagan or Wiccan wedding ceremonies, but is often include in traditional wedding celebrations today. The binding of hands can represent a betrothal, a temporary trial marriage, or a lifelong commitment, depending on the couple's intentions.
